The best Ahrefs alternatives are Semrush for an all-in-one suite, SE Ranking for agency value, and Majestic for link data on its own.
Ahrefs Lite costs $129 a month for 750 tracked keywords, one user and 6 months of history. That is a lot of money if you mostly use one or two reports.
This guide compares six tools that can replace Ahrefs, along with one that does a job Ahrefs leaves to you. We checked prices on each vendor's site on November 1, 2026, and we explain where a tool falls short.
The 7 best Ahrefs alternatives: TL;DR
The first six replace Ahrefs in some way, and the seventh works alongside it:
- Semrush: best full alternative, from $139 a month
- SE Ranking: best value for agencies, from $129 a month
- Majestic: best for link data alone, from $49.99 a month
- Serpstat: best budget all-rounder, from $69 a month
- Mangools: best for simple keyword research, from $37.70 a month
- Ubersuggest: best cheap Ahrefs alternative, from $29 a month
- Seowly: best for acting on the data, at $39 a month
Stay on Ahrefs if backlink and content research is the center of your week.
What are Ahrefs alternatives?
Ahrefs alternatives are SEO tools that replace some or all of Ahrefs: backlink analysis, keyword research, rank tracking, site audits and competitor research. Ahrefs competitors range from full suites to single-purpose tools that cost much less.
The right alternative depends on which part of Ahrefs you pay for. If you use Site Explorer every day, you need strong link data. If you mostly run keyword research, a lighter tool may cover you at a third of the price.
Why do people look for sites like Ahrefs?
People look for sites like Ahrefs mainly because of price and plan limits. Ahrefs pricing starts at $29 a month for Starter, then $129 for Lite, $249 for Standard and $449 for Advanced. Annual billing saves up to 17%.
Three limits push people to compare:
- Competitor research sits behind paid plans. Ahrefs Free covers only sites you have verified.
- History is tied to your plan. Lite includes 6 months.
- Seats cost extra. Lite includes one user, so a team pays more.
None of that makes Ahrefs a bad product. Its data page lists 35 trillion external backlinks in its history, and few vendors publish a comparable claim. You should only switch if you are paying for depth you do not use.
How do the best Ahrefs alternatives compare?
Semrush is the closest match, SE Ranking offers the best value, and Majestic is the strongest on links alone. The table compares the lowest plan that suits professional work, billed monthly unless noted.
| Tool | Entry price | Annual billing | Free option | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs (for reference) | $129/mo (Lite) | Save up to 17% | Ahrefs Free, your own sites | Link research |
| Semrush | $139/mo (SEO) | $117.33/mo | Free plan, 10 reports a day | All-in-one teams |
| SE Ranking | $129/mo (Core) | $103.20/mo | 14-day trial | Agencies |
| Majestic | $49.99/mo (Lite) | $41.67/mo | None confirmed | Link data |
| Serpstat | $69/mo (Individual) | $50/mo | 7-day trial | Budget all-rounder |
| Mangools | Not confirmed | From $37.70/mo | Free account | Keyword research |
| Ubersuggest | From $29/mo | Not confirmed | 7-day trial | Solo site owners |
| Seowly | $39/mo, 5 brands | $390/yr | Free opportunity report | Running outreach |
Serpstat's monthly price is worked out from the annual saving on its pricing page. Mangools quotes "from $37.70" without naming the billing period, so the annual column is our best reading.
1. Semrush: best full alternative
Semrush is the best full Ahrefs alternative because it matches Ahrefs across every major job. Its Backlink Analytics claims more than 43 trillion backlinks and 390 million referring domains.
The SEO plan costs $139 a month, or $117.33 billed annually, with 5 websites and 500 keywords tracked daily. Starter at $199 adds AI prompt tracking. The free account gives you 10 reports a day, and we cover its limits in Is Semrush free?
The price is close to Ahrefs Lite, so this is a switch for workflow more than for savings.
2. SE Ranking: best value for agencies
SE Ranking is the best value for agencies because its entry plan tracks far more keywords than Ahrefs Lite. Core costs $129 a month, or $103.20 billed annually, with 10 projects and 2,000 keywords tracked daily, according to its pricing page.
Its backlink checker claims 2.9 trillion backlinks. You get 5 free checks a day, and Core includes unlimited backlink research. A 14-day trial needs no card.
The trade-off is a smaller database than the largest suites, so test it on your niche during the trial.
3. Majestic: best for link data alone
Majestic is the best Ahrefs alternative if you want a link index without paying for a suite. Its Fresh Index covers 550.8 billion URLs found in the last 120 days.
Lite costs $49.99 a month, or $41.67 billed annually, excluding VAT. Pro costs $99.99 and adds the Historic Index, which reaches back to 2006 but has been frozen since May 2024.
You will need something else for keyword research and audits. It suits link specialists more than general SEO teams.
4. Serpstat: best budget all-rounder
Serpstat is the best budget all-rounder for anyone who wants a suite at a much lower price. Individual costs $69 a month, or $50 billed annually, with 5 projects, 100 searches a day and 30,000 audit pages.
The Team plan costs $129 a month, or $100 billed annually, and adds unlimited projects, 500 searches a day and 3 users. Details are on Serpstat's pricing page.
Daily search limits are the main catch, so heavy research days can run into them on Individual.
5. Mangools: best for simple keyword research
Mangools is the best choice if Ahrefs feels like too much tool. KWFinder and its sister tools focus on one job each, which suits solo consultants and small teams.
Mangools lists pricing from $37.70 a month on its comparison page, and it offers a free account with no card. Its full plan table loads dynamically, so confirm current plans before you buy.
It is not built for heavy backlink work or agency reporting.
6. Ubersuggest: best cheap Ahrefs alternative
Ubersuggest is the best cheap Ahrefs alternative for solo site owners. Plans run from $29 to $99 a month on its pricing page, with a one-time 7-day trial on monthly plans.
Limits scale from 1 project and 150 reports a day to 15 projects and 900 reports a day. Tracked keywords run from 125 to 300 per project.
It also sells lifetime plans, but those purchases are final, so try a monthly plan first. Its link data is lighter than Ahrefs', so it suits occasional checks more than deep research.
Seowly finds who links to your competitors, writes the pitch, and sends it from your own inbox.
7. Seowly: best for acting on the data
Seowly does not replace Ahrefs, and we would rather say so up front. It is an autonomous link building agent that handles the job every tool above stops short of, which is contacting the sites on your list.
Each tool here can show you who links to your competitors. Seowly picks the sites worth contacting, writes the pitch, sends it from your own mailbox and follows up. A price always comes back to you, because it never commits your money.
It costs $39 a month for up to 5 brands, and it needs an IMAP mailbox on your own domain. Gmail and Microsoft mailboxes are not supported. You can see what sustained outreach built in our Love Tales link building case study, which comes from a site our founder co-founded.
What is the best free Ahrefs alternative?
The best free Ahrefs alternative is a small stack, because no free tool covers everything. These cover most needs for a site you own:
- Google Search Console for your real queries, pages and links.
- Ahrefs Free for backlink and keyword data on sites you have verified.
- Semrush's free account for 10 reports a day, including competitors.
- SE Ranking's backlink checker for 5 free checks a day.
- Seowly's free SEO tools for Open Graph and llms.txt checks.
The gap is competitor depth. Free tools rarely show a rival's full link profile, and that is usually the point where people start paying.
How do you choose the right Ahrefs alternative?
Choose by the reports you open each week, not by the feature list. These steps take less than an hour:
- Check your last month of use. Name the reports you actually ran.
- Count sites and tracked keywords. Project limits rule out more tools than price does.
- Add seats. Include the cost of every extra user.
- Run one known site through each tool. Compare results with Search Console.
- Test a real workflow. Build a report you would send a client.
What mistakes should you avoid when leaving Ahrefs?
The biggest mistake is comparing entry prices without comparing limits. A cheaper plan that tracks a fraction of your keywords stops being cheaper once you upgrade.
- Comparing DR with other authority scores. Domain Rating is an Ahrefs metric, and other vendors calculate their scores differently.
- Forgetting to export history. Rank data rarely moves between tools, so export it before you cancel.
- Trusting index size claims alone. Vendors count backlinks differently, so test coverage in your niche.
- Switching mid-reporting cycle. Run both tools for a month so client numbers stay comparable.
- Expecting a new tool to change results. Better data does not build links. Our guide on how many backlinks you need to rank shows how to turn data into a target.
When should you stay on Ahrefs?
You should stay on Ahrefs if backlink research is the center of your work and you use Site Explorer most days. Few alternatives publish link data at that scale, and switching has a real cost in lost history and retraining.
Staying also makes sense when the $29 Starter plan covers what you need. Check it against your usage before you move anything. If you are weighing Semrush too, our guide to Semrush alternatives covers the other side of that decision.
The bottom line on Ahrefs alternatives
Most people can match their Ahrefs use for less by choosing a tool built for the job they run most. Pick Semrush for a full suite, SE Ranking for agency value and Majestic for links alone, then test on a site you know. Whichever you choose, the data only pays off once someone acts on it, and Seowly's free opportunity report shows what that would look like for your site.
